Cirque du Soleil show pays tribute to late icon with world tour.

<P><B>NEWARK, New Jersey</B> &#8212; Music, dance and acrobatics combine in celebration of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson</a>'s iconic life in the "Immortal" World Tour. From trapeze artists to acrobats and even a world-champion pole dancer, guests at the Cirque du Soleil show can expect a high-energy tribute to the legend. </P><P> </P><P>The tour stopped for two nights in Newark, New Jersey, this past weekend (its 40th stop) and will open Tuesday night (April 3) at New York's Madison Square Garden, where it will remain through Thursday. From there, it will continue across North America through the summer before heading to Europe in the fall. </P><P> </P><P><center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:755805/cp~vid%3D755805%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A755805" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="right" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center> </P><P> </P><P>Having already produced the <a href="http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/like/default.aspx" target="_blank">Beatles "Like" show</a> in Las Vegas, Cirque is no weirder to musical tributes. </P><P> </P><P>"Immortal" serves as a sensory explosion that starts on the subdued side and progresses in both spectacle and energy. More than 60 artists perform to 32 songs in a presentation that feels much like a concert with an ensemble of circus-inspired acts elegantly melding together. The stage is two levels with a long peninsula extending into the audience, where the majority of the acrobatics takes place. MJ's famed choreographic style was present in nearly all the numbers, and the audacious task of the performers was well-received by the audience. </P><P> </P><P>The progression of the musical numbers went seamlessly. The energy kicked into high gear with Jackson-like characters performing "Fanatics Medley" as Jackson 5 &#8212; one of them in MJ's signature fedora and another as a gold-suited mime. Jackson's youth was remembered in "Childhood" during which a recording of Jackson's voice referred to his early stardom as he sang, "Have you seen my childhood?/ It's been my fate to compensate/ For the childhood I've never known." </P><P> </P><P>While the moving screens, elaborate stage designs and detailed costumes were impressive, one of the most awe-inspiring moments was witnessing what the human body is capable of during the pole-dancing number. Felix Cane, a two-time world pole-dancing champion, maneuvered in the sky dancing on a pole &#8212; with no harness &#8212; appropriately performing to "Perilous," as the audience was captivated by her every go. </P><P> </P><P>Another highlight was "Human Nature," during which the back screens were dominated by Neverland graphics and an image of a young Michael sitting on the moon. In front of the backdrop, a half-dozen artists wrapped in multicolored LED costumes soared through the air in sync, representing the constellations. </P><P> </P><P>"Beat It" got the crowd moving while they watched performers in MJ's signature accessories, including his well-known glove and penny loafers, dance in dynamic movement. A rock-infused duel between an electric guitar and electric cello capped the song. </P><P> </P><P>After an elaborate performance to "Black or White," as the night seemed to be over and the audience slowly started spilling into the aisles, the lights illuminated one last time for an encore to "Man in the Mirror." Raising Sand, from Led Zeppelin vet and bluegrass superstar, wins five Grammys on Sunday night.

<P>"I'm bewildered," <a href="/music/artist/plant_robert/artist.jhtml">Robert Plant</a> said onstage as he accepted the <MTVNLINK type="news" id="1604580">Grammy Album of the Year award</MTVNLINK> with <a href="/music/artist/krauss_alison/artist.jhtml">Alison Krauss</a> on Sunday night. "In the ancient days we would have called this selling out, but it's a excellent way to spend a Sunday." </P><P> </P><P>He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because <i>Raising Sand,</i> which won five trophies at Sunday night's show, is in many ways the perfect <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys/">Grammy</a> album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker's dozen of time-tested standards.</p><div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:338316" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="configParams=instance%3Dnews%26vid%3D338316" allowFullScreen="right" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>You're probably familiar with Robert Plant from his <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a> days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett's work on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don't know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she's won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history. </P><P> </P><P>Really, she's the key to <i>Sand</i>'s success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music &#8212; so much so that they started kicking around the thought of recording an album together. Three years later, <i>Sand</i> was released. </P><P> </P><P>And while Plant possesses the more well-known voice, the album's finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she's getting bluesy on Small Milton's "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" or entwining with Plant's husky voice on songs like "Please Read the Letter" and Roly Salley's winsome "Killing the Blues," she more than carries her end of the bargain. </P><P> </P><P>And perhaps that's also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on <i>Sand.</i> His arrangements are sparse &#8212; giving the two voices ample room to breathe &#8212; yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It's a testament to his work that he's often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project … and it's certainly justified. </P><P> </P><P>To date, <i>Sand</i> has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and really earned a Grammy last year &#8212; "Gone Gone Gone (Done Went On)" took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. </P><P> </P><P>One expert was surprised not by the album's success, but by the fact that it's really quite a excellent album. </P><P> </P><P>"At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. … Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn't have to be any excellent, you know?" <i>New York Times</i> music critic Jon Caramanica said. "Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it really turned out to be a really thoughtful, really <i>excellent</i> record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys like to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards." </P><P></p>

Well, everyone, that’s it for our 2012 Oscars coverage. It’s been a fantastic awards season. Can’t wait to see you next year. … … … Hello, everyone, and welcome to MTV News’ 2013 Oscars coverage. It seems like just yesterday that “The Artist” won huge and took home Best Picture, but who cares about that movie anymore? That’s ancient news.

This year is sure to be a huge year at the movies, and the nominees for next year’s Oscars are already lining up. MTV News has your first look at the likely nominees for the Academy Awards based on everything we know about the Oscars.

<huge>Best Supporting Actor
A rare, wide-open race this late in the game, Best Supporting Actor nominations could go to any number of fantastic actors who were not fantastic enough to be considered for the lead. The one lock at this point has to be Christoph Waltz for his work in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained.” Waltz won an Academy Award for playing essentially the same character in “Inglourious Basterds,” but this time he’s a excellent guy. What could be terrible about that?

<huge>Best Actress
Here’s a category already locked in a dead heat, with a wide variety of potential nominees vying for one of the five spots. The real shock here could be young Quvenzhané Wallis in “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” who won over audiences at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and the Academy will jump at any opportunity to honor a child actor. Other potential nominees include Sandra Bullock in “Gravity,” a largely solo performance from a previous winner, and Keira Knightley in “Anna Karenina” because it’s Keira Knightley in a Joe Wright-directed costume drama. Also, either Charlize Theron or Noomi Rapace could earn nominations for “Prometheus,” depending on whose face doesn’t get eaten first.

<huge>Best Actor
For Best Actor, expect to see a lot of familiar faces and perhaps one familiar face that really belongs to someone else. I’m speaking, of course, about Joseph Gordon-Levitt in “Looper.” It’s unclear whether JGL will be in a more supporting role, but early reports peg his prosthetic-enhanced performance as a young Bruce Willis as a career-best. Also, the Academy likes an actor in makeup. You might see the rest of the category filled out with award favorites because they’re award favorites, like Daniel Day-Lewis (“Lincoln”), Philip Seymour Hoffman (“The Master”), Brad Pitt (“Cogan’s Trade”), and a second nomination for John Hawkes (“The Surrogate”).

<huge>Best Picture
The 2013 Best Picture category should shake out like filling out the cast of a heist movie. Everyone has a unique role to play. You have the musical (“Les Miserable”) and the obligatory Tolkien nominee (“The Hobbit”). There’s the populist Ben Affleck film (“Argo”) and the critic-loved Ben Affleck film (“Untitled Terrence Malick Project’). Plus, you need a current affairs film (“Untitled International Thriller,” formerly known as “Kill Bin Laden”) and a movie everyone loved but will never win (“The Dark Knight Rises”). That should just about do it.

DoSomething.org’s annual list ranks the 20 most charity-friendly stars.

Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and George Clooney better have received something nice from Santa this year, because they certainly weren’t on his naughty list. Those three toplined DoSomething.org‘s Top 20 Celebs Gone Excellent, the organization’s annual roundup of the most charity-friendly stars in the business.

This is Gaga’s second year in a row at the #1 spot. In 2011 she dedicated much of her time to putting an end to bullying and even started a new charitable organization called Born This Way. The “Marry the Night” singer did plenty more to help out those less fortunate in 2011, including auctioning off a nude sketch for charity and performing at the Bill Clinton Foundation fundraiser. But, this was really Bieber’s year to shine. He rocketed up DoSomething.org’s list from #10 last year to #2 this year. It helps that Bieber donated some of his profits from his Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe, and his self-named perfume to various charitable organizations. Bieber also kept up his work with Pencils of Promise, a group that has built 41 schools in Laos, Nicaragua and Guatemala and was founded by his manager’s brother.

Rounding out the top five were Will and Jada Pinkett Smith and Leonardo DiCaprio. This was a year for celeb power couples, with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie clocking at #8, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore at #12 and newlyweds Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert at #14. Other notable standouts this year were Demi Lovato at #10, Lea Michele making her charitable debut at #16, Daniel Radcliffe at #17, Miley Cyrus at #18 and Taylor Swift rounding out the list at #20. Adele came in at #2 on Billboard 200 between Bublé’s Christmas and Jeezy’s latest.

There’s just no catching Michael Bublé on the Billboard 200 as 2011 comes to a close. The smooth crooner will top the charts once again next week thanks to his holiday steamroller, Christmas, moving another 467,000 units. In just over two months, MB has sold 2.4 million copies, giving him the second best-selling album of the year to date, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.

And though he’s place up very impressive numbers in a small time, there’s no way he can surpass 2011′s chart champ, Adele, whose 21 sold another 399,000 copies, giving her more than 5.6 million in sales so far this year. Right behind Adele at #2 was the week’s only new top 10 entry, Young Jeezy‘s long-awaited TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition.

The rest of the top 10: Justin Bieber‘s Mistletoe (#4, 225,000), Drake‘s Take Care (#5, 131,000), Lady Antebellum‘s Own the Night (#6, 110,000), Rihanna‘s Talk That Talk (#7, 99,000), Nickelback‘s Here and Now (#8, 99,000), Black Keys‘ El Camino (#9, 92,000) and Now That’s What I Call Music! 40 (#10, 88,000).

Just outside the top 10, people were clearly picking up copies of Coldplay‘s Mylo Xyloto as stocking stuffers, sending the album’s sales up 85 percent to 85,000 and eight slots to #12 as it closes in on sales of 1 million. The only other notable new entry on the charts was Common‘s The Dreamer/The Believer, which will debut at #18 on sales of 69,000.

Several top 20 artists got a serious double-digit boost in the run-up to Christmas, including LMFAO (up 85 percent), Mary J. Blige (up 75 percent), Florence and the Machine (up 101 percent) and Lil Wayne (up 93 percent).

Bieber named Google’s Most Well loved Person of 2011, while ‘Born This Way’ tops Fastest Rising Songs chart.

Let this serve as undeniable proof that, regardless of search engine, Justin Bieber truly dominates the Interwebs. Having already been named Bing’s most-searched person of 2011, on Thursday (December 15) Bieber picked up another e-honor, as Google unveiled its annual Zeitgeist site and, in the process, declared him its Most Well loved Person of the year, besting Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga to take home the title. Nicki Minaj and, uh, Casey Anthony rounded out the top 5. It’s a fitting way to cap off a year that saw Bieber beat Gaga in the race to 2 billion YouTube views, though perhaps the Mother Monster can take solace in the fact that “Born This Way” topped Google’s Fastest-Rising Song search list, ahead of “Watch the Throne” (which, you know, isn’t really a song) and Blake Shelton’s “Honey Bee.” Of course, not even Bieber could best Rebecca Black on Google’s Fastest Rising Searches, as the “Friday” sensation topped the list — which tallied worldwide searches — ahead of Google Plus, Ryan Dunn, Casey Anthony and “Battlefield 3.” Breakout star Adele also made huge headways this year, landing at #7 on the list and beating out Steve Jobs and the iPad 2. Not surprisingly, Black also came in atop the Fastest-Rising People list, besting “American Idol” champ Scotty McCreery and teenage bride/ pumpkin-patch enthusiast Courtney Stodden. But when it came to the year’s most-searched images, well, neither Bieber nor Black made the cut. Instead, folks were seeking pics of Charlie Sheen above all else, followed by “Planking,” “Kim Kardashian wedding” and a trio of hair-raising (or perhaps razing) queries: “Tom Brady Haircut,” “Selena Gomez Haircut” and “Emma Watson Haircut.”

DJ set cut small after venue’s electrical system caught fire and at least 15 fans suffered smoke inhalation.

LMFAO’s Red Foo was forced to cut small a Wednesday night DJ set in Honduras after a fire broke out, filling the venue with smoke and sending fans scrambling for the exits.

According to TMZ, Red Foo was nearing the end of his performance at the Coliseo Nacional de Ingenieros in the capital city of Tegucigalpa when the venue’s electrical system reportedly caught fire, filling the venue with smoke. According to reports, no one was seriously injured, though at least 15 fans were treated for smoke inhalation. Local television reports showed fans being escorted from the venue and receiving oxygen. Honduran authorities suggested the fire was intentionally set, though at press time, it was not clear if anyone had been arrested in connection with the blaze.

Immediately following the abrupt end to the show, LMFAO’s Redfoo took to his Twitter account, joking, “Epic concert tonight!!!! Everybody in Honduras, we set the place on fire!!!! #sorryforpartyrocking.” He then responded to a fan about the fire, writing, “They told us there was a fire when we were on stage. Then we went to the dressing rooms and there was smoke in the halls.”

He then changed his tone, writing, “On a serious note, hope everybody is safe from the fire tonight! Like you Honduras!”

Through LMFAO’s mark, Interscope, Redfoo gave this account to MTV News: “All of a sudden, right in the middle of ‘Beatockin,’ my manager Ian Fletcher shouted, ‘There’s a fire under the stage. We have to go!’

“I didn’t want to go!” he continued. “I didn’t realize how serious it was. The security escorted us out the venue. We were forced to leave a few items behind, nothing irreplaceable.

“I hope everybody is safe,” he added. “Honduras fans are right party rockers! This will go down in history as one if craziest Redfoo DJ sets ever.”

Less than 24 hours removed from the fire, the hard-partying duo were pressing on, celebrating the ascension of their hit “Sexy and I Know It” to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart (knocking off Rihanna’s “We Found Like”) and prepping for a New Year’s Eve gig at the Haze nightclub in Las Vegas, where, hopefully, nothing will catch fire.

From music to TV to celebrity babies, MTV News looks ahead to all of the huge releases expected in the coming months.

It’s a new year and that means that there’s lots of ooey-gooey pop goodness all ready to pour out in 2012. Between celebrity babies, music and Hollywood, fans should gear up for some really huge stuff in the coming year. But if history has taught us anything, as hard as we might plot, pop culture always has a way of sneaking up and surprising us. Not that we’re complaining. So get your planners out: MTV News is looking ahead at what to expect in the world of pop culture.

Music
There are lots of huge album releases slated for 2012. Crossover queen Nicki Minaj will release Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded just in time to show her Barbz and Kenz some like on Valentine’s Day. Madonna already has confirmed that she will drop her next album come spring. Fans already got a taste of it when the single “Gimme All Your Luvin’ “ leaked on the Internet.

“American Idol” alum Adam Lambert is readying the release of his next album, Trespassing, set to drop in March. Willow Smith’s fans should whip their hair back and forth as the tween’s long-simmering debut album, Knees and Elbows, will finally drop in April. Justin Bieber has teased his Believe album for a summer release. He’s shared that it will pick up where Justin Timberlake left off before he chose to focus on his acting. Basically, he’s bringing sexy back.

There are two forthcoming albums that don’t have exact release dates but are highly anticipated nonetheless. Lady Gaga is already thinking about her next album and recently revealed to MTV News that she even has a title for her Born This Way follow-up in mind. Taylor Swift is knee-deep in and working hard on her follow-up to her phenomenally successful Speak Now.

In between pumping out tunes, some huge shows will also return in 2012. Everything from “The Secret Circle” to “2 Broke Girls” to “New Girl” will be back for more fun come the new year.

After a break, “Pretty Small Liars” will be back midseason. Will we finally find out who “A” is when season 2 resumes on January 2? Well, only that texting antagonist knows the answer. There are many other mysteries on “The Vampire Diaries” that will also have to be resolved once that show picks up again on January 5. And if all that drama is too much to handle, “Glee” will be back for more sing-along excellent times on January 17, with the Michael Jackson tribute episode airing one week later.

Celebrity Babies
2012 is poised to be a huge year for well-known babies. OK, so 2011 saw Mariah Carey and Dem Babies, but some of the most well-known ladies in La La Land and beyond will become first-time moms in the new year, giving MC and her family a run for their money.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z will welcome their first child into the world any day now. The twosome revealed they were in the family way at the VMAs back in August. Jessica Simpson and her fiancé, Eric Johnson, will also welcome their first small bundle of joy. The news of the pregnancy came after a lot of speculation about Simpson’s expanding midsection. As it turns out, it’s a huge year for triple-threat moms-to-be, with Hilary Duff also expecting a baby come 2012.

On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.’s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years. The albums featured in the new series are the Rolling Stones‘ Let It Bleed, Led Zeppelin‘s IV, David Bowie‘s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, Mike Oldfield‘s Tubular Bells, The Clash‘s London Calling, New Order‘s Power, Corruption and Lies, Primal Scream‘s Screamadelica, Pink Floyd‘s The Division Bell, Blur‘s Parklife and — the most recent album on to make the cut — Coldplay‘s A Rush of Blood to the Head. Meant to honor “the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people’s lives,” the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself really approved each design. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan “a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today’s issue date.” “We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps,” the message read. “Very nice they are too.”

As promised, Ke$ha and her boys Lil Wayne, T.I., Wiz Khalifa and Andre 3000 dropped a new remix of “Sleazy” on Tuesday (December 13).

The Bangladesh-produced song originally appeared on K-Dollar’s 2010 Cannibal album before a remix featuring Andre popped up earlier this year. The latest version of the song is available for buy and is all over blogs like Rap-Up.com. The song gets a bit dirtier and introspective thanks to verses from the guys that play up the track’s bumping beat. Wiz kicks it off, rapping about designer clothes and his lady like, Amber Rose. “OK, I’m young and I’m tatted/ I get them bucks like an addict/ Rocking this Christian Dior/ I spend so much on my fabric/ I got a wifey at home/ And what she wants she can have it,” he spits before going on about chilling on the beach, being rich and his prowess in the bedroom. Sitting in between Wiz and Tip is Andre’s recycled verse, before T.I. gets his shot and gets sexy, asking Ke$ha, “Do you know what to do with me?” before he launches into a verse all about how excellent he is to the ladies. “Terrible bitches know me/ So don’t bother introducing me/ They want me more than diamonds,” he brags before explaining that it has a lot to do with his impressive anatomy. Wayne closes it out, adding his own signature flair. “We be on that sh– that no one be on/ That’s what we on/ Smoke that neon, Kings of Leon/ Dynamite, Napoleon/ Got some skinnies and a tee on/ And some Vans,” he rhymes about his well-known sense of Weezy-fied style before the song circles back to the funky chorus, where Ke$ha declares that she doesn’t “need you or your brand-new Benz/ Or your bougie friends/ I don’t need like lookin’ like diamonds/ Lookin’ like diamonds.” If any of K’s fans or critics were wondering if she has the swagger to chill with the guys, she showed some of her sass when she tweeted about the remix. “Question ANIMALS … who can say they got with Lil Wayne, T.I., Andre 3000 and Wiz Khalifa on a f—ing hot track??” she questioned. “ill give u one clue … Its $.” What do you reckon of the “Sleazy” remix? “Hairstylists are being inundated with requests” by clients that want to resemble these stars, the publication reports. “The enthusiasm plays out online, where the fastest-rising searches for celebrity haircuts on Google are for Ms. Watson and Mr. Bieber.”

On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.’s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years. The albums featured in the new series are the Rolling Stones‘ Let It Bleed, Led Zeppelin‘s IV, David Bowie‘s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, Mike Oldfield‘s Tubular Bells, The Clash‘s London Calling, New Order‘s Power, Corruption and Lies, Primal Scream‘s Screamadelica, Pink Floyd‘s The Division Bell, Blur‘s Parklife and — the most recent album on to make the cut — Coldplay‘s A Rush of Blood to the Head. Meant to honor “the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people’s lives,” the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself really approved each design. It’s prom season, and that means high schoolers across this fantastic land will be renting tuxes, buying fancy dresses and negotiating the details of their curfews with parents. So, before you take your pictures and get in your limos, we questioned some Hollywood A-listers to recall their fondest prom memories. “I had a fantastic prom,” Ne-Yo told MTV News. “I didn’t get to go with who I wanted to go with. I got my second choice, but my second choice turned out to be the one I was supposed to be there with, so it turned out excellent.”

Ke$ha, never one to say no to a party, had the best night of all her friends. “I went to prom with my gay best friend, and let me tell you, I had way more fun than anyone else at a prom with their boyfriends,” she recalled. “Everybody else was, like, crying and drama and breaking up, and me and my gay best friend just danced until 8 a.m.” “Hellcats” star Aly Michalka doesn’t have a favorite prom memory — because she never went to prom. “I was homeschooled, so I don’t even reckon we had a fake prom,” she lamented. “Like, maybe we had a home-school prom and I wasn’t invited?” While everything always seems to be in peril on “The Vampire Diaries,” star Nina Dobrev had a less tumultuous night: “Having everyone get together and such a final celebration [is what I remember].” Romeo went huge for his prom. “My senior prom, I remember I pulled up in my red Ferrari. I was feeling like James Bond,” he said. “And it was one of the best nights of my life.” “My favorite prom memory was probably going shopping for a dress, and our boyfriends at the time dressed up as ‘Dumb & Dumber,’ ” Audrina Patridge laughed. “And so we were like, ‘We can’t dress up dorky … we have to look excellent.’ ” Roots drummer ?uestlove made a huge choice on the night of his prom: “June 2, 1989, was my very last haircut; prom haircut, really butchered my hair. He butchered my hair, and I vowed never again to ever get in a barber chair, so I grew that Afro on my prom night.” Adam Lambert said his prom date was a 10, so he certainly had a fun night. “I had a fantastic prom. I had an awesome time,” he said. “I went with one of my best friends in high school. Her name was Lauren, and she was really hot. A new pro-Newt Gingrich ad airing in Iowa warns voters in advance of the Jan. 3 caucuses not to let the “liberal Republican establishment pick” a presidential candidate.

The ad is from pro-Gingrich super PAC Winning Our Future, which can spend unlimited funds as long as it doesn’t coordinate with him directly. That’s not shady at all.

The 30-second spot touts Newt’s conservative credentials, accusing the Republican establishment of “attacking him with falsehoods” and outspending him 20-to-1.

Pretty amusing in a way that a PAC that would obviously outspend Mitt Romney 20-to-1 if it could is lamenting its own underfunded status, but that’s Newt for you.

On the flip side, he does have a point. The establishment does have some clout, but given the fluidity of this race, the conservative base is much broader.

Obviously the average voter isn’t too swayed by what the powers that be tell them to be. But will voters come out to support Newt, or is he fading quick?

After Britney Spears confirmed her engagement to longtime beau Jason Trawick last Friday, fans wanted to know everything about the ring, a four-carat diamond designed by Neil Lane.

Trawick — Brit’s former agent — popped the question after working with famed jeweler Lane on the design, according to People.com. The site also reported that Trawick wanted a crown-like band. In addition to the mega-sparkler at the center of the tiara-style setting, the hubby-to-be also had 90 small round diamonds added around the band. Spears debuted the ring during a trip to Las Vegas over the weekend to celebrate her fiancé’s birthday.

“Jason is a romantic and when I questioned him to tell me about Britney and what the ring would represent to them so I could find inspiration, his response was always the same — she is his princess!” Lane told the website. “Jason didn’t want an over-the-top ring with a giant stone.”

Minya Oh, the author of “Bling Bling: Hip Hop’s Crown Jewels,” told MTV News she was pleasantly surprised by how understated the rock is. “The ring is so damn classy! It’s [four] carats, which by Hollywood standards these days is practically microscopic,” Oh said. “The setting is a tiny crown but both that and the thin diamond-studded band are done so delicately, from afar the focus is still on that bright white center stone. Nothing about the ring overwhelms her hand, and nothing screams, ‘Please believe my relationship is real!’ ” She added, “This is the kind of ring a pop icon has when they’re ready for something that means more than just the ring.”

This is hardly Spears’ first engagement ring, but. When her ex Kevin Federline popped the question back in 2004, the former back-up dancer gave the pop princess a five-carat diamond ring.

All this talk about rocks got us thinking about some other celebrity proposals, so we chose to spotlight a few memorable engagement rings.

When it comes to size, Spears’ ring from Trawick is small compared to Kim Kardashian’s monster-size rock. When Kris Humphries popped the question earlier this year, he gave her a 20.5-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond. Of course, the size of the ring didn’t guarantee lasting marital bliss: the couple split after 72 days of marriage.

Like Humpdash, Jay-Z, who is expecting his first child with wife Beyoncé, also went the Lorraine Schwartz route. He gave his pop-star lady like an 18-carat ring back in 2007. The couple kept their wedding ceremony under wraps.

While it has been a bumpy engagement for former “Hills” star Kristin Cavallari and her football player fiancé Jay Cutler, the couple announced they were engaged again last month. Cutler opted to use the same 5.2-carat ring he’d given the MTV reality star back in April when he first chose to place a ring on it.

On Thursday (December 15), the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced its nominees for the Golden Globe Awards.

Sofia Vergara, Woody Harrelson, Rashida Jones and Gerard Butler all woke up bright and early to present the list of names, and one of those announcers even found herself with a nod. “Modern Family” star Vergara is up for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, and she quickly took to Twitter to share her excitement. “Celebrating with cake at 5am my Golden Globe nomination,” she wrote.

She is hardly the only person excited about the recognition. “Hugo” director Martin Scorsese, up for Best Director, quickly released a statement. “Making ‘Hugo’ was an extraordinary experience for me. It gave me a chance to work in 3D, which I’ve wanted to do since I was young; it allowed me to make a child’s adventure, the type of picture that I loved when I was young; and it provided an occasion to pay tribute to one of the cinema’s greatest pioneers, Georges Méliès,” he said in a lengthy statement.

“Given the support they’ve provided to the Film Foundation in our efforts to restore many films over the years, the recognition of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this particular picture has a very special meaning for me,” he added.

Angelina Jolie’s Bosnia-set “In the Land of Blood and Honey” is up for Best Foreign Language Film. “I am grateful that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is honoring our film,” she said in a statement. “This was a right collaboration and I am forever indebted to our cast and crew, who experienced their own personal tragedies in the Bosnian War and gave me an authentic perspective into the conflict. This nomination is a tribute to the collective talent and passion of this extraordinary cast.”

“50/50″ producer and star Seth Rogen spoke to The New York Times about that film’s nods. “I reckon you can make a comedy about any subject if you approach it correctly,” he said of the so-called cancer comedy. “The truthfulness of the tale, in this case, was key. I don’t reckon we would have even thought to make the movie if we hadn’t experienced it.”

“My Week With Marilyn” star Kenneth Branagh, up for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture spoke of his turn as Sir Laurence Olivier in a statement to MTV News. “To be recognized for portraying one of the greatest actors of our time is truly an honor, and I am incredibly thankful to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for their continued support of our film,” he said. “Working alongside Michelle [Williams] was an extremely rewarding experience, and I’m thrilled that both she and our brilliant team of filmmakers have also been recognized for their incredible work. I feel very blessed to be nominated for a role that is so close to my heart.”

Black-and-white silent film “The Artist” is up for six awards, including Best Motion Picture — Comedy Or Musical. “Thank you so much to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this incredible gift. To be recognized alongside such brilliant actors is an honor,” star and best actor nominee Jean Dujardin, said in a statement. “The Golden Globe nomination for ‘The Artist’ has left me speechless!”

His nominated director, Michel Hazanavicius, added, “It’s a fantastic privilege and an honor for us to be nominated for a Golden Globe award by the HFPA. After trying out the dating scene, Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry has reportedly chose that estranged baby daddy Jo Rivera is the one for her after all.

She wants another baby with him, as well.

“She is still in like with Jo,” a source close to Kailyn tells Star. “She wants to wait until after she graduates, but she wants another baby with Jo.”

Earlier this year, Kailyn was going steady with Jordan Wenner, but was anything but faithful, often getting frisky with Jo Rivera on the side! Drama!

“Jo was spending a lot of time with her and their son, Isaac, and basically one thing led to another,” the source says. “Kailyn cheated on Jordan.”

Jo, who still has feelings for Kailyn, cheated on his girlfriend, Vee. They broke up, though, allowing the Teen Mom stars to pick things up again.

“When Kailyn and Jordan broke up, she and Jo got together again,” the source says. “Kailyn is a bit torn now, because Jo plays games with her.”

But if Jo broke up with his girlfriend and then said he wanted to be with Kailyn Lowry, “She’d do it. She wants Jo, Isaac and her to be a family.”

It was a showdown between two queens of pop — Rihanna and Beyoncé — each vying for a prime spot on MTV’s Best Artists of 2011 list. RiRi wound up besting Lady B by a slim margin. But how did she come out on top?

MTV correspondent Sway Calloway moderated a spirited roundtable discussion with some of our very own experts: James Montgomery and Rob Markman (MTV News), Yomi Desalu and Malika Quemerais (MTV Music and Talent) and Tamar Anitai and Nicole James (MTV.com). The panel discussed the artists who ruled 2011, from the Throne and Lil Wayne to Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. It was during that debate that Beyoncé and Rihanna met in a battle for the #6 position. In the end, Rihanna prevailed, with B taking #7.

“I like Rihanna,” Montgomery said. “I reckon she is the kind of artist that I really like as a pop star who makes really cool, controversial videos and pushes the envelope in every conceivable way.”

“She hustled so hard,” Anitai added.

After all, Rih did have us buzzing about songs off two albums in 2011. New hits popping from 2010′s Loud — including a remix of “S&M” with the one-and-only Britney Spears — ruled the charts in the first half of ’11. While some artists would just ride the momentum of that smash album, Rih went back into the studio mid-tour and cranked out Talk That Talk. The first single off TTT, “We Found Like,” was a certified dance-pop classic from the minute it hit.

It was a tough choice for our experts because Knowles had such a remarkable year. Her album 4 — a collection of soulful ballads and mid-tempo tracks tempered with a deep nostalgic streak — was arguably her most mature yet. And she triumphed during intimate, sold-out shows at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom in August. B was also responsible for this year’s most talked-about (and tweeted about) pop-culture moment, announcing her pregnancy to the world right on our VMA stage.

But it was Rihanna’s ability to rule for 365 days straight that was the deciding factor.

“It’s very rare that you see an artist that’s there, that is consistently there throughout the year that people don’t get sick of,” Quemerais observed. “I feel like the appetite for Rihanna is constant.”

“If you were to go numbers by numbers, Rihanna can go toe-to-toe with anyone on our list,” Montgomery reinforced. “She never gets the credit that she deserves.”

She certainly got the credit here.

Sunday night (December 18), some of the music industry’s most-soulful divas will be taking the stage for the latest installment of “VH1 Divas.” For some, like Kelly Clarkson, it’s a return engagement, but for others, like Florence and the Machine leading lady Florence Welch, it’s the chance to show diva-like prowess for the first time.

Since the show kicked off in 1998, it’s had a long history of getting some of the largest female performers in the world on the same stage belting out some of pop’s best tunes. That first show gathered Aretha Franklin, Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion, Shania Twain and Mariah Carey, quickly becoming a pop-culture milestone. It even prompted the ladies of “Saturday Night Live” to poke fun at the over-the-top singing styles and personalities of the women chosen for the show.

In the 11 years since the premiere episode of the concert special, everyone from ancient-school belters to new-school singing sensations have been billed as “divas.” The show ran annually until 2004, after which it took a break for several years. By the time the show was re-launched in 2009, a whole new crop of pop superstars had emerged. In ’09, Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, Leona Lewis, Jennifer Hudson, Adele and Miley Cyrus proved their diva status, taking the stage and ushering in a new era.

A year later, in 2010, Nicki Minaj, Sugarland, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Keri Hilson, Paramore and Katy Perry brought some new-millennium glamour to the show. That year, the show was dedicated to supporting soldiers and billed “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops” event.

This year’s show, airing at 9 p.m. ET/PT Monday on VH1, will bring Clarkson, Welch, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott and Jessie J to the stage. In a tribute introduced by Nas, Welch, Wanda Jackson, and Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings will honor late soul singer Amy Winehouse.

VH1 also will pay tribute to the prominent birthplaces of soul music, including Chicago, Detroit, London, Philadelphia and Memphis, Tennessee. The divas are expected to pay homage to these cities and the genre with their own soulful tracks as well as some of soul music’s classic tunes onstage at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. And the celebration is not exclusive to women: The Roots have been confirmed as the event’s house band, and ?uestlove is set to pull double duty as musical director. Boyz II Men and Travie McCoy also will perform.

“VH1 Divas” airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT Monday on VH1.

DJ/producer calls their collabo the ‘largest record’ on his just-released Nothing but the Beat.

David Guetta recently told MTV News that the Usher collabo “Without You” is the “largest record” on his just-released Nothing but the Beat.

It’s a rather bold statement, considering his latest album also features Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, will.i.am, Akon, Timbaland, Nicki Minaj and Jennifer Hudson, just to name a few. But Guetta has a soft spot for the cinematic team-up with Ush, which he says is equal parts sentimental and hands-in-the-air euphoric.

“It’s just really emotional,” Guetta said. “Some of the record is a proper ballad, and then it goes to that crazy dance beat. It’s perfect for him, because he’s well-known for his ballads. And he’s also now well-known for those huge club records that he comes with. He’s an incredible dancer, so I felt like he was the artist that I needed.”

Usher and Guetta first previewed the song in Ibiza, Spain, earlier this summer, with the crowd demanding an encore performance of the sure-to-be-hit song.

“It was incredible,” Guetta gushed. “We were not supposed to do this. I always do these kinds of stupid things, playing records when I’m not supposed to play them. And Usher was so excited for this time to be in Ibiza performing in front of those people. He called me onstage and said, ‘Come on. Let’s do it.’ So we did it, and, yeah, they loved it. We had to do it again! They questioned for one more.”

For some, the combination of Usher and Guetta might seem out of left field. While the DJ/producer works with a variety of artists, he has a pretty tight-knit musical family — but it may come as a surprise that Guetta has known Usher the longest.

“I really speak very often about how thankful I am to will.i.am because he called me to produce ‘I Gotta Feeling’; Akon, when we started to work together, because I wasn’t well-known in America; Kelly Rowland and all those guys that came to me when I was not known yet,” Guetta said. “But I have to say that the very first time when someone huge from America questioned me if I want to work with him, it was Usher. Like, a really long time ago, but we never had the time to do it. So I was so pleased to be finally in the studio with him, because he spotted me when I was really not well-known yet.”

Usher and Guetta already shot the video for “Without You” in Ibiza. The song will follow up Guetta’s current single, “Small Terrible Girl,” which features Ludacris and Taio Cruz.

As news spread that 27-year-ancient Amy Winehouse was dead, stars immediately tweeted their shocked reactions and remorse over the lost talent.

Katy Perry, who touches down in Boise, Idaho, this weekend as part of her California Dreams Tour, tweeted her condolences, writing, “RIP Amy Winehouse. May she finally find peace.”

Nicki Minaj, who is also on the road as part of Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale jaunt, took to Twitter and expressed disbelief at the news of Winehouse’s passing. “Please tell me Amy Winehouse didn’t die,” wrote the Young Money MC, who’s set to hit the stage in Florida on Saturday (July 23). “Is this some sick joke?”

“I am genuinely heartbroken about this,” wrote Rihanna, who continued to express her shock over multiple tweets. “Dear God have mercy!!! I am SICK about this right now!” In another, she wrote “U made a MAJAH impression on this industry and throughout the world, in such a small space of time…too small!”

Usher reflected on Winehouse, who he had known: “I’m so sad to hear the horrible news of Amy Winehouse’s death. I’m so pleased I knew you Amy…Rest Well. Gone Too Soon…we’ll miss you!!”"

Frequent tweeter Kim Kardashian used her 140 characters to send prayers: “I just heard the news that Amy Winehouse passed away. What a right talent. I pray she’s in a better place & at peace.”

Meanwhile, Ryan Seacrest showed Winehouse’s impact on the music industry, singling out both Lady Gaga and Adele as those who had been influenced. “Sad to lose Amy Winehouse – incred talent. Both @LadyGaga & @OfficialAdele say Amy paved way for them.”

Dr. Drew focused on the singer’s well-documented struggles with addiction. “SO sad, another lost to addiction. A reminder this is often a fatal condition. Recovery is possible, but sadly not for Amy Winehouse.”

Winehouse’s American record mark, Universal Republic, said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such a gifted musician, artist and performer. Our prayers go out to Amy’s family, friends and fans at this hard time.”

Ali Williams calls smooch ‘very professional’ in video for first single from Under the Mistletoe, which drops Tuesday.

In the time since Justin Bieber dropped his “Mistletoe” video, his leading lady, Ali Williams, clarifies that things have been a small different for her. The18-year-ancient college freshman is still reeling from the experience and all the attention she’s been getting.

“My friends were freaking out a small more than I was,” Williams dished to MTV News. “I wasn’t really prepared for all the stuff that was happening. I reckon that pretty much everyone has been pretty supportive. There’s some things out there that are untrue, just as far as my age and stuff, but everyone has been really nice and supportive about that.”

The huge role came after a last-minute email from her agent about the audition. And while director Roman White and his crew kept the project pretty secretive at the audition, Williams used context clues and research to figure out she might be starring in a Bieber video. Eventually, she landed the gig, and the day before the Nashville-area September shoot, she learned who the video was for.

“I certainly admire him. He’s very successful in what he’s doing. I wasn’t too familiar with his music, but I was very excited to meet him, and I’m glad that I did,” she confessed.

“He was really nice. He was a excellent person. I heard that he was a nice guy, just from what you read in magazines and stuff, so I wasn’t really worried about meeting him. He was … really simple to get along with, really polite. As far as the kissing, it was very professional. It’s just a job.”

She said she hopes the video opens doors for her as she continues to pursue an acting career while also attending Nashville’s Belmont University, where she’s studying journalism.

“I was really pleased about [the video]. I reckon it was edited well, and it all came together. I really liked it,” she said. “I would certainly say this is one of my favorite jobs I’ve done so far. Overall, I just thought the whole set was a lot of fun ’cause they made it look exactly like Christmas, and they have fake snow and everything.

“It looked really excellent, and it was weird because it was 75 degrees outside, and we had Santa and snow. It was really excellent, and it was fun.”

Even with a galaxy of huge stars on hand to honor former President Bill Clinton on his 65th birthday, it was, of course, Lady Gaga who made the huge headlines Saturday night at the four-hour Clinton charity fundraiser, “A Decade of Difference.”

Emerging on the stage from an all-white tree house, Gaga sang a sedate, unplugged version of “Born This Way” on keyboards, while wearing a giant cloth hat and flesh-colored cape over a similarly colored top and leggings. The backing track soon pumped up and a group of dancers came out as Gaga made her way down to the main stage and sang the line, “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen,” while the former president and his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, clapped and smiled along.

Wearing a blond wig, Gaga paid homage to Marilyn Monroe by changing some of the lyrics to “Terrible Romance” to “Bill romance,” prompting the president to later declare, “I thought, ‘My God, I get Lady Gaga, and I will have a heart attack celebrating my 65th birthday.’ ”

“Well, I’m having my first real Marilyn moment,” Gaga joked after the opening, running her fingers through her mane. “I always wanted to have one, and I was hoping that it didn’t involve an accident with some pills and a strand of pearls, so here we are.”

Gaga’s set also included a run through “Edge of Glory,” during which she said, “I wish you were playing sax with me tonight, baby,” an homage to late E Street horn man Clarence Clemons, who played on the song, but a quip that Clinton could have also taken as a nod to himself, as he’s also known for blowing a mean sax.

The show took place at the Hollywood Bowl to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Clinton Foundation and, though his birthday was on August 19, Clinton was still feeling very thankful for all the fuss.

“I am the only person in history who got to be president and then had a post-presidential birthday party attended by both Lady Gaga and the secretary of state,” Clinton said to the crowd, which included such stars as Colin Farrell and Chevy Chase. “I want to thank Hillary because we met 40 years ago this year. When I met her, she was already doing the kind of work you see here long before it was cool.”

Also on hand to fete the former president was Stevie Wonder, who performed “Superstition,” “Sir Duke” and “For Once in My Life,” and U2‘s Bono and the Edge (accompanied by a laptop), who did acoustic versions of “Desire,” “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “One,” “Staring at the Sun” and “Miss Sarajevo.” The pair also unveiled the first-ever live version of “A Man and a Woman” from 2004′s How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, dedicating it to Chelsea Clinton and her husband, Marc Mezvinsky.

The U2 singer praised the former president for his work in helping to broker peace in Ireland, saying that “at the top of the list” for playing the gig was the fact that his homeland is “truly at peace, north and south, because of the 42nd President of the United States of America,” whom he dubbed the “most beloved president since JFK for us Irish.”

Usher made news because he danced so hard that he split his pants during a mini-set that included a cover of the Joe Cocker take on the Beatles’ “With a Small Help From My Friends,” as well as his own “Yeah!” and “OMG.” Also performing were Colombian pop star Juanes, country singer Kenny Chesney, Grace Potter and K’Naan. Among the celebrities on hand to make introductions were Ashton Kutcher, Ellen DeGeneres, Jason Segel and Maria Bello.

Conrad Murray’s defense team presented a series of character witnesses who praised his skills as a physician.

The day after one of Michael Jackson‘s former nurses was brought to tears while testifying at the involuntary manslaughter trial of the singer’s former doctor, Conrad Murray, it was the cardiologist who got weepy on Wednesday (October 26) as his defense team produced a series of witnesses attesting to Murray’s skills as a physician.

» After weeks of prosecution witnesses hammering away at what they deemed Murray’s unprofessional, sloppy work in the final, crucial hours of MJ’s life, the cardiologist’s defense team spent Wednesday serving up a string of character witnesses to speak on Murray’s behalf, according to the Los Angeles Times. The patients from Murray’s Las Vegas and Houston practices talked about the hours he spent speaking to them, calling them at home and on weekends, and the free services he offered to those who were indigent. “That man sitting there is the best doctor I’ve ever seen,” said Andrew Guest, who Murray treated for a heart condition in 2002. “I’m alive because of that man.” Their testimony caused Murray to well up with tears at various points.

» Longtime patient and friend Causey said his appointments with Murray often lasted more than four hours, with the doctor often calling Causey’s wife afterward to clarify his treatment. Sampson also testified to Murray’s careful, exhaustive attention and Mosley said Murray set up a clinic in a low-income neighborhood in honor of his father, who was a physician in that area.

» While cross-examining the witnesses, prosecutor David Walgren pointed out that each patient had received care for heart-related ailments and were not treated for sleep disorders or drug dependency. Prosecutors have said Murray’s motivation to give Jackson the surgical anesthetic propofol was his promised six-figure monthly salary.

» Each patient also noted that when Murray did sedate them it was in a hospital setting with monitoring equipment and backup personnel. Prosecutors have argued that Murray did not have proper monitoring equipment or a nurse assistant when he gave Jackson a fatal dose of propofol and then left the room on June 25, 2009.

» When jurors left for the day, Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor spoke directly to Murray and reminded him that he has a right to choose whether or not he testifies on his own behalf in the trial. Pastor said he would question Murray for an answer on that question later this week when the defense rests its case. Murray was not listed on Thursday’s defense witness roster submitted by attorney Ed Chernoff.

Murray, who was being paid $150,000 a month to care for Jackson, has pleaded not guilty to the felony charge of involuntary manslaughter and is now facing four years in prison. But new sentencing laws in California aimed at mandatorily reducing state prison overcrowding mean that, as a nonviolent offender with no prior record, he could be sentenced to county jail instead. If that is the case, his sentence could be reduced to two years and, because of overcrowding in the Los Angeles County jail, he may be allowed to serve the majority of his time under supervised house arrest.

Odd Future MC dreams of crafting a ’90s-R&B-style beat for JB.

It may be a stretch to call Tyler the Creator a Belieber, but the Odd Future maestro is a certain Justin Bieber fan.

“I met Justin back in February. He’s a cool kid and sh–,” Tyler told MTV News. “When I got in there, he was talkin’ about the ‘Yonkers’ video and sh–. It was weird, because I was sitting here starstruck, like, ‘Oh, f—, it’s Bieber. He’s asking me questions.’ I’m like, ‘Shut the f— up so I can talk to you.‘ ”

The outspoken rapper/producer may not have been able to get a word in edgewise, but he isn’t deterred: He still has dreams of crafting a track for the Biebs. So is the OFWGKTA terror going pop? Not exactly.

“I just want to make ’90s R&B, like break beats, hard drums with pretty chords and sh–,” Tyler said of the type of track he’d make for Justin. “I really want to do that. Like, I be listening to Brandy or the first three Mary J. [Blige] albums and sh– and Faith [Evans] and Zhané and sh–. That sh– is awesome.”

Bieber is no weirder to hip-hop. On top of collaborating with Kanye West and Raekwon on a remix of “Runaway Like,” his upcoming holiday album features Busta Rhymes. On their version of “Small Drummer Boy,” Bieber’s rap alter ego, Shawty Mane, even gets in on the action. “If you really reckon about it, it’s genius, because it’s rapping on a Christmas album … and, like, I’m rapping on it. And then it’s singing,” he clarified to us during the “MTV First” premiere of his “Mistletoe” video. “It’s cool. [Busta's] got, like, a percussive voice to him [and] the beat was so crazy.”

The Wolf Gang’s knack for pushing the envelope and risqué content may make him and the Biebs an odd match. On October 11, Tyler released a video for “BSD,” a sexually explicit track from his Goblin LP and on the same day sent this tweet: “This Video Prolly F—ed Over My Chances Of Ever Working With Bieber. F— It.”

Even if he doesn’t get to work with Justin, Tyler’s still a fan. “He’s chill as f—, though,” Tyler said.

After Spears’ Dublin concert, a fan was thrown off a fairground ride outside the venue.

Britney Spears expressed her condolences Tuesday (October 25) to the family of a fan who died after attending her concert Monday in Dublin, Ireland.

Siobhan Healy, 31, was on a fairground ride called the Tip Top outside the concert venue when she was thrown to the ground and killed instantly. According to the U.K.’s Daily Mail, Healy had attended Spears’ concert earlier in the evening at the nearby O2 arena.

“I was saddened to hear of the tragic accident in Dublin,” Spears tweeted Tuesday. “My heart goes out to the family. –Britney”

A family friend told the paper that the accident has devastated the residents of Healy’s hometown of Willsborough. “The community is very shocked,” Michael McGreal said. “I know her family very well, we are all very upset.”

An investigation has been launched to find out what caused the accident, with some speculating that the recent severe weather that has swept through Ireland might have been a contributing factor.

Kenneth McFadden, the owner of the company that runs the Tip Top ride, also expressed his condolences. “We can’t say [what happened], it all happened so quick,” he said. “We are just in bits at the moment, we are just devastated.”

McFadden also told the Daily Mail that he has had the Tip Top ride for nearly five years and never experienced any problems with it.

She’s one of the few young stars who’s been able to maintain a squeaky clean image, and Taylor Swift is irate over the release of supposed topless photo of herself by a website called Celeb Jihad.

According to TMZ, the “Mine” singer insists that she was “wrongly identified” as the subject in the leaked nude photo – and she’s geared up to file a lawsuit against the site which posted the material.

Celeb Jihad ill-advisedly place up the risque pic of a girl resembling Miss Swift with a headline accompanying the shot reading “Taylor Swift Topless Private Pic Leaked?”

Taylor’s camp has since sent over a letter insisting that the post be taken down immediately with non-compliance to be met with a trademark infringement lawsuit due to “fake pornographic images and fake ‘news’ about the singer.”

TMZ tells that the operators of the site are currently considering their options before making a go.

On Wednesday, Tennessee rapper Gangsta Boo stopped by “RapFix Live” and addressed the current state of the female MC, noting that she hoped everyone could learn to work together. But she had less than kind words for one MC in particular, Kreayshawn.

During the conversation, Gangsta Boo likened the “Gucci Gucci” rapper to a “wigger” and told “RFL” host Sway that the up-and-comer reminds her of a character from the 1997 Halle Berry comedy “B.A.P.S.” Although she gave respect to Kreayshawn, the Three 6 Mafiia co-founder said she was concerned about Kreay’s “ghetto” image.

Shortly after Boo’s appearance on the live stream, Kreayshawn took to Twitter, sending out a few mysterious tweets that many fans took as a dig at the rapper. “Hahahah lonely hungry bitch don’t deserve a mention. my local news caster got more followers then on you. Go play with ya kids hoe!”

She followed that up with another tweet: “Hope them shirts you selling at least paying your rent! Pleased I can contribute.”

The tweets seemed to be a reaction to Gangsta Boo, who showed off her shirt on Wednesday’s show. On Friday (October 28), Kreayshawn was back on Twitter clearing the air, with a tweet to the Memphis MC.” @GangstaBooQOM I wasn’t talkin bout you. You know how the media be. [Sh--] you was one my fav. female rappers! You can say what you want,” she wrote.

Kreay insisted those tweets weren’t directed at Gangsta Boo when MTV News spoke to her on Friday afternoon.

“I was just like kind of shocked because I’m a fan of Gangsta Boo and as a female, she was one of the females in the game that inspired me to rap,” she said of the comments made about her on “RapFix Live.” When I heard it I was like, ‘What? Gangsta Boo? This sucks.’ To hear that from somebody that inspired me.

[The tweets] didn’t even have anything to do with her. I already spoke to her about it,” the Bay Area MC added. “The thing I tweeted wasn’t even about her. It was on some whole other person. We finished up talking to each other. … We worked everything out. There ain’t no problems.”

Gangsta Boo also let her fans know any beef has been settled. “PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE STOP ALL THIS KREAYSHWAN AND BOO S— EXCELLENT GOD HOW BOUT THEM BRAVES???? ITS NO BEEF FOR CHRIST SAKES. Just got off the phone w/ @KREAYSHAWN & I DID snap a lil bit in interviews but she took it like a G & she Luvs BAPS & she is not a ‘wiggy,’ ” she tweeted.

“New respect 4 her because she did not take it to heart & she got at me letting me know she was not talking abt me so HEY MEDIA BYE MEDIA,” Lady Boo added.

Now that the two performers have smoothed things over, Kreayshawn said she really respects Boo’s opinion. “From the outside looking in, everyone has the option to their own opinion,” she said. “That’s why I wasn’t mad at her. I was just like, ‘Oh, this sucks.’ She can have her opinion, but we talked about it and it’s all excellent.”

After Spears’ Dublin concert, a fan was thrown off a fairground ride outside the venue.

Britney Spears expressed her condolences Tuesday (October 25) to the family of a fan who died after attending her concert Monday in Dublin, Ireland.

Siobhan Healy, 31, was on a fairground ride called the Tip Top outside the concert venue when she was thrown to the ground and killed instantly. According to the U.K.’s Daily Mail, Healy had attended Spears’ concert earlier in the evening at the nearby O2 arena.

“I was saddened to hear of the tragic accident in Dublin,” Spears tweeted Tuesday. “My heart goes out to the family. –Britney”

A family friend told the paper that the accident has devastated the residents of Healy’s hometown of Willsborough. “The community is very shocked,” Michael McGreal said. “I know her family very well, we are all very upset.”

An investigation has been launched to find out what caused the accident, with some speculating that the recent severe weather that has swept through Ireland might have been a contributing factor.

Kenneth McFadden, the owner of the company that runs the Tip Top ride, also expressed his condolences. “We can’t say [what happened], it all happened so quick,” he said. “We are just in bits at the moment, we are just devastated.”

McFadden also told the Daily Mail that he has had the Tip Top ride for nearly five years and never experienced any problems with it.

Drummer admits he doesn’t know what will come of ‘new material.’

On Friday morning, mere hours before he was due to take the stage with classic rockers Foreigner at Detroit’s GM Renaissance Center, drummer Jason Bonham — the son of late Led Zeppelin kitman John Bonham — told Jim Johnson and Lynne Woodison of local rock station 94.7 WCSX that he’d be an ex-member of Foreigner as of September 1. But that’s not the only thing he said.

Much to the delight of Led Zeppelin fans everywhere, Bonham revealed that he’s been meeting up with Led Zep guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones in recent months and that they’ve been “trying to do some new material and writing.”

It was the first time since Led Zeppelin announced they would re-form for a single performance (which happened late last year at London’s O2 Arena, in honor of the late Ahmet Ertegün, who signed the band to Atlantic Records in 1969) that anyone connected to the band has confirmed publicly that new music could be on the horizon for the iconic rockers. While the bandmembers have stopped small of definitively ruling out such a reunion, singer Robert Plant insisted in the wake of last year’s show that he intended to focus on promoting and touring behind his critically lauded album with bluegrass artist Alison Krauss, Raising Sand.

Not that Bonham knows what — if anything — will happen with the new material he’s been working on with Page (who collaborated with pop singer Leona Lewis on an uneven version of Zep’s “Whole Lotta Like” at the Olympic closing ceremonies in Beijing on Sunday night) and Jones. He said he just shows up and takes his seat behind the kit.

“I’ve been over [to England] a couple of times,” Bonham said. “I’ve been working with Jimmy and John Paul and trying to do … some new material and some writing. I don’t know what it will be, but it will be something. At the moment, all I know is I have the fantastic pleasure to go and jam with the two guys and start work on some material. When I get there, I never question any questions. If I get a phone call to go and play, I delight in every moment of it. Whatever it ends up as, to ever get a chance to jam with two people like that, it is a phenomenal thing for me. It’s my life. It’s what I’ve dreamed about doing.”

He said it’s still too early to tell what will become of these “jam” sessions, but admitted that the “possibility of doing something is in the cards. I really felt it was in the cards from the moment we walked offstage at the O2.” Bonham also clarified that, before there could be a Led Zep LP, “lots of politics [would need to] get ironed out,” but added that recording with Zep is “something I’ve always wanted to do.”

Bonham noticeably didn’t mention frontman Plant’s name during the discussion. A spokesperson for Page’s management had no comment on the matter, and a spokesperson for Jones’ management could not be reached by press time.

Dana White flew across country today to New York, when he landed, he and mixed martial art fans were greeted with some lousy news. The main event next week at UFC 137 has been scrapped because of an injury to UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre.

Carlos Condit will go on the shelf and wait for a healthy GSP to retur with Nick Diaz vs. B.J. Penn moving to the main event.

MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani spoke with GSP’s trainer Firas Zihabi, who sent mixed signals in these comments:

“He’s out for a month,” Zahabi said of GSP. “I would say at least a month he can’t train. So unfortunately, he’s out of the fight, that’s for sure. He’s not in any condition to fight, that’s for sure. No doctor will clear him.”

That sounds like a pretty serious injury or does it?

This suddenly changes the tone of the event for Nick Diaz. Diaz freaked out a month ago as his title fight with main event status approached against St-Pierre. Does this change things for Diaz from a mental standpoint?

Media conglomerate Viacom, the company that owns both Spike TV and MTV, has jumped into the MMA game with the buy of Bellator Fighting championships. USA Today reports that Viacom now has a majority stake in Bellator, and their fights will start airing on Spike in 2013, moving from MTV2.

Spike had a longtime relationship with the UFC, beginning with “The Ultimate Fighter” in 2005. That will end this December when the 14th season of “The Ultimate Fighter” comes to a close, and the UFC jumps to Fox networks. Spike will have rights to the UFC library until the end of 2012. When that agreement ends, Spike will have Bellator and its tournament-based fights in place.

Bellator started airing preliminary fights on Spike’s website earlier this year, and CEO Bjorn Rebney told Cagewriter in a previous interview that he was excited to work with Spike because they already know MMA.

“We’re a fantastic position in that our deal is with MTV networks, so it’s that larger corporate umbrella. They control Spike, MTV, MTV2. You never know what the future will bring. The foreseeable future will be what it is, which is MTV2 and Spike.com for the prelims, but Spike is better than anyone in this space. They get it better than anyone.”

This is nothing but excellent news for fans. It ensures that Bellator will be viable for years to come, giving fans more choices for MMA. With the UFC on Fox networks and Bellator with Viacom, there will be a greater volume of fights. Though the go to Spike is more than a year away, it will also give fans the option to watch in HD, a choice that doesn’t exist with MTV2.

Diaz is on a 10-fight winning streak, but some critics contend that he’s built up his record against weak opponents and wouldn’t be able to handle the best of the best in the UFC. The fight with Penn should tell us a lot about Diaz: Can he use his high-volume but sometimes sloppy punching against a excellent boxer? Can he get the better of an brilliant jiu jitsu player on the ground?

I’ve always loved watching Diaz and was hoping to see him fight St. Pierre for the welterweight title, but my money is on Diaz falling small against Penn. I reckon Penn can jab Diaz effectively all night if the fight stays standing, and I reckon Penn is too sophisticated a grappler for Diaz to get him in distress on the ground. This is not a excellent stylistic matchup for Diaz, and I see Penn winning by unanimous choice.

Cheick Kongo vs. Matt Mitrione
Mitrione was a former NFL defensive lineman who had small MMA experience when he was invited to join the cast of The Ultimate Fighter, but he has developed into a credible heavyweight. Kongo is a fantastic striker and a lot of fun to watch, but he struggles against larger, stronger opponents who can take him down, and I reckon that’s exactly what Mitrione is going to do. I like Mitrione to win a choice and improve to 6-0.
Pick: Mitrione

Mirko Cro Cop vs. Roy Nelson
Both of these guys are on two-fight losing streaks and have looked very unimpressive lately, but the difference is that in Nelson’s two losses he was simply beaten by better opponents. In Cro Cop’s two losses he was not only beaten but looked like he didn’t even particularly want to fight. It’s sad to say but I just don’t reckon Cro Cop has anything left at all. Look for Nelson to win, and for UFC President Dana White to face questions about whether Cro Cop is done in the UFC.

Scott Jorgensen vs. Jeff Curran
The one excellent thing you can say about all the injuries that affected UFC 137 is that they made space for Jorgensen vs. Curran on the main card. This fight should be a lot of fun, featuring one of the best bantamweights in the world in Jorgensen, against one of the pioneers of the lower weight classes in Curran. I’d like to see Curran go on a run in the UFC, but he’s 34 years ancient and has been fighting for 13 years and I reckon he’s slowed down considerably. I reckon Jorgensen wins this one handily.

Hatsu Hioki vs. George Roop
Hioki has been the best featherweight in Japan the last few years and is an exciting addition to the UFC’s featherweight division. He has fantastic reach and knows how to take advantage of it on his feet, and he’s very aggressive off his back on the ground. And yet … after seeing so many fighters have success in Japan only to struggle when they go to the Octagon, I’m having a hard time seeing Hioki beating a solid UFC veteran like Roop. I reckon this fight goes the distance and Roop takes the choice.

Even with a galaxy of huge stars on hand to honor former President Bill Clinton on his 65th birthday, it was, of course, Lady Gaga who made the huge headlines Saturday night at the four-hour Clinton charity fundraiser, “A Decade of Difference.”

Emerging on the stage from an all-white tree house, Gaga sang a sedate, unplugged version of “Born This Way” on keyboards, while wearing a giant cloth hat and flesh-colored cape over a similarly colored top and leggings. The backing track soon pumped up and a group of dancers came out as Gaga made her way down to the main stage and sang the line, “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen,” while the former president and his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, clapped and smiled along.

Wearing a blond wig, Gaga paid homage to Marilyn Monroe by changing some of the lyrics to “Terrible Romance” to “Bill romance,” prompting the president to later declare, “I thought, ‘My God, I get Lady Gaga, and I will have a heart attack celebrating my 65th birthday.’ ”

“Well, I’m having my first real Marilyn moment,” Gaga joked after the opening, running her fingers through her mane. “I always wanted to have one, and I was hoping that it didn’t involve an accident with some pills and a strand of pearls, so here we are.”

Gaga’s set also included a run through “Edge of Glory,” during which she said, “I wish you were playing sax with me tonight, baby,” an homage to late E Street horn man Clarence Clemons, who played on the song, but a quip that Clinton could have also taken as a nod to himself, as he’s also known for blowing a mean sax.

The show took place at the Hollywood Bowl to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Clinton Foundation and, though his birthday was on August 19, Clinton was still feeling very thankful for all the fuss.

“I am the only person in history who got to be president and then had a post-presidential birthday party attended by both Lady Gaga and the secretary of state,” Clinton said to the crowd, which included such stars as Colin Farrell and Chevy Chase. “I want to thank Hillary because we met 40 years ago this year. When I met her, she was already doing the kind of work you see here long before it was cool.”

Also on hand to fete the former president was Stevie Wonder, who performed “Superstition,” “Sir Duke” and “For Once in My Life,” and U2‘s Bono and the Edge (accompanied by a laptop), who did acoustic versions of “Desire,” “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “One,” “Staring at the Sun” and “Miss Sarajevo.” The pair also unveiled the first-ever live version of “A Man and a Woman” from 2004′s How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, dedicating it to Chelsea Clinton and her husband, Marc Mezvinsky.

The U2 singer praised the former president for his work in helping to broker peace in Ireland, saying that “at the top of the list” for playing the gig was the fact that his homeland is “truly at peace, north and south, because of the 42nd President of the United States of America,” whom he dubbed the “most beloved president since JFK for us Irish.”

Usher made news because he danced so hard that he split his pants during a mini-set that included a cover of the Joe Cocker take on the Beatles’ “With a Small Help From My Friends,” as well as his own “Yeah!” and “OMG.” Also performing were Colombian pop star Juanes, country singer Kenny Chesney, Grace Potter and K’Naan. Among the celebrities on hand to make introductions were Ashton Kutcher, Ellen DeGeneres, Jason Segel and Maria Bello.

What if Monica and Chandler got divorced, but everybody (including them) stayed Friends? Courteney Cox and David Arquette are developing an ensemble sitcom about a couple in just such a situation. Now there’s word that NBC has bought the show, which is called Ten Years.

Sources told TVLine that that the show will explore “the ebb and flow of a [decade-long] relationship for a recently separated couple in the center of a group of friends and family."

The announcement led gossip columnist Perez Hilton to joke about the real-life exes that "maybe this separation is merely research!" 

Well, that would be a small extreme. But according to an earlier report from TV Line, there’s "buzz two of the characters on the potential series are loosely inspired by Cox and Arquette, whose amicable split and joint child-rearing arrangement would provide fertile ground for storylines."

The show will be produced by the couple in conjunction with their company, Coquette Productions, and rumor has it that Arquette may costar. Cox, of course, is already busy with the starring role in ABC’s Cougar Town, which will return for its third season in January. She’s also a regular fixture on the Dancing With the Stars sidelines cheering on her not-yet-ex hubby — who admitted to Howard Stern that the two are "in the friend zone" — along with their daughter Coco, 7!

Ironically, Cox and Arquette won’t be the only sitcom about an amicably separated couple. Fran Drescher and her ex, Peter Marc Jacobson, co-produce TV Land’s Happily Divorced — based on their own experience. Season 2 is scheduled to air this spring.

For some people, apparently, getting separated is just the beginning of a fantastic business partnership!

With the end of the “Twilight” franchise in sight, will star Robert Pattinson follow the lead of “Harry Potter” actor Daniel Radcliffe and segue into the land of musical theater?

Maybe, if Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong has his way. The rumor that Pattinson could be eyed for the lead role in the huge-screen adaptation of the Green Day album/Broadway musical “American Idiot” picked up some serious steam this week. The only problem is that the “news” is not exactly new, but rather based on speculation from Armstrong more than two years ago, before Pattinson was, well, mega.

Questioned who he want to play Christian, the male lead, Armstrong told Spinner.com in an April 2009 interview, “I’m gonna say maybe that kid in ‘Twilight,’ [Pattinson]. He’s a excellent actor. There’s still more to come with that kid.”

So, why is the quote picking up steam now? You can thank VH1′s rebooted “Pop Up Video,” which recently recycled the rumor when it ran a version of GD’s “21 Guns” with a series of bubbles that read, “Hollywood is trying to turn it into a movie … Billie Joe has said that his first choice to play the main character: Robert Pattinson.”

The movie, being produced by Tom Hanks’ Playtone in collaboration with Green Day, is currently in pre-production and no casting has been announced. At press time, MTV News could not reach Playtone or Green Day for comment on the rehashed Pattinson rumors or any other casting news.

If right, the choice of Pattinson would not be that outrageous. In addition to being one of today’s hottest young male stars, RPattz is still in search of a role that would help him break free of the “Twilight” orbit, and he has a musical background. In addition to playing guitar and piano, he composes his own songs, two of which appeared on the “Twilight” soundtrack. He also contributed three songs to the soundtrack of the small-seen “How to Be.”

Like the musical, the movie will be based on the band’s 2004 album of the same name, which tells a tale of like, loss and war. The Broadway production integrated songs from the original album as well as its follow-up, 21st Century Breakdown, and a previously unreleased tune called “When it’s Time.” The movie is tentatively slated to hit theaters in 2013.

On Wednesday, Dana White flipped out on Twitter on MMA media members who ran with a phony fight announcement that Rashad Evans would challenge UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones in December at UFC 140. Now we know why.

The reports were erroneous. Jones is fighting, but it’ll be Lyoto Machida trying to snatch his belt. Evans had to drop out of the proposed fight because of an injury.pro

“After my last fight against Tito Ortiz, I dislocated my right thumb, which required it to be set back in place and held with pins. 24 hours ago, my physician removed the pins. At that time, I learned that it would require another three weeks of rehabilitation before engaging in any exercise or training that would require the use of my hand,” Evans said in a release.

He’s disappointed, but knows the show must go on.

“Dana White and I spoke earlier today, and I fully know his choice to place Machida against Jones for the title at UFC 140. Given the rehabilitation time I require for my dislocated thumb, I would not be 100 percent ready by December 10,” Evans said. “The UFC has to keep making fights that entertain the fans. I would have done the same thing as Dana in his position. I’m asking for the fans to support me as I rehabilitate my hand, and I promise I will be back fighting very quickly.”

Jones and Evans have a nasty rivalry brewing. The trained together at Jackson’s MMA in Albuquerque before Evans left to train elsewhere. They were scheduled to meet at UFC 133 in August, but Jones had to bail from the fight with his own hand injury. Now Jones must defend his belt against the very tough Machida to get his shot at Evans.

“After my last fight against Tito Ortiz, I dislocated my right thumb, which required it to be set back in place and held with pins. 24 hours ago, my physician removed the pins. At that time, I learned that it would require another three weeks of rehabilitation before engaging in any exercise or training that would require the use of my hand,” Evans said in a release.

He’s disappointed, but knows the show must go on.

“Dana White and I spoke earlier today, and I fully know his choice to place Machida against Jones for the title at UFC 140. Given the rehabilitation time I require for my dislocated thumb, I would not be 100 percent ready by December 10,” Evans said. “The UFC has to keep making fights that entertain the fans. I would have done the same thing as Dana in his position. I’m asking for the fans to support me as I rehabilitate my hand, and I promise I will be back fighting very quickly.”

Jones and Evans have a nasty rivalry brewing. The trained together at Jackson’s MMA in Albuquerque before Evans left to train elsewhere. They were scheduled to meet at UFC 133 in August, but Jones had to bail from the fight with his own hand injury. Now Jones must defend his belt against the very tough Machida to get his shot at Evans.

HOLLYWOOD — At Sunday’s 53rd Grammy Awards, Usher will be pulling double duty as both a nominee and a performer. Of course, given the massive year he just completed — with the success of his smash single “O.M.G.” and as a mentor to rising phenom Justin Bieber — Ush’s Grammy plans seem rather fitting.

Especially since he’ll be performing with Bieber (and Bieber’s pal Jaden Smith), a go that’s just as much about celebrating Usher’s successes as it is the successes of his young protégé.

“Having been through [the Grammys] so many times, you couldn’t want for anything more than for your young protégé to have the opportunity to have one, so, in support of him having his moment, I wanted to be here,” Usher told MTV News on Thursday, hours before his performance at the (Belvedere) RED launch party in Hollywood. “And also to be there to perform, to kind of tell the tale of how we came together. This music business has certainly been excellent to both of us, and this year we have a lot to be pleased for.”

And just how will the dynamic duo tell that tale? Well, Usher wasn’t about to reveal all the details, but he did say that he’s hoping their performance will show another side of Bieber … a side most tend to overlook.

“The performance will be fun,” Usher clarified. “We want to get up there and just do what we do. Be comfortable, and have a fantastic time. … This is kind of a crossover for Justin. Having performed on so many different stages, this is the way that I wanted him to be seen and an opportunity to show the industry — a lot of the industry, that didn’t believe [in him] — some of his other talents. He’s going to play acoustically, and also, we’ll get down a small bit.”

And though Ush is up for a pair of Grammy awards on Sunday — Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best Contemporary R&B Album for Raymond v. Raymond — he’s most looking forward to sharing the stage with Bieber and giving fans a look at where the young artist will be heading next.

“I’m very proud, man. I certainly saw it from the beginning, but thanks to the team that we have around us, it was made to happen. And that tale has only just begun,” Usher said. “The tale of Justin Bieber doesn’t stop with screaming girls; we need screaming fans all around the world … a cultural experience that’s much more than just fanfare. And that’s what this is. That’s what the Grammys will be; that’s what my next phase for Justin is. This is the way I found him: I found him with a guitar in his hand, so I want him to be seen that way.”

I’ve been watching a lot of HGTV since coming to LA. My favorite shows are House Hunters and House Hunters International. There’s also another show I like to watch called For Rent, but only because it makes me mad.

When it comes to apartments/homes, I reckon living in New York for the past eleven years has made me bitter because there was this whiny broad on For Rent a few nights ago who was looking at a huge place—A HUGE PLACE—and was like, “There’s no place for a dining room table…”

B*TCH, YOU’RE LUCKY TO GET A KITCHEN IN NEW YORK.

I despised her.

Now there’s some stupid lady on House Hunters who wants a townhouse with a fireplace that she can turn on with a light switch. IT HAS TO BE A LIGHT SWITCH because she doesn’t want to bend down and flip a switch on the floor.

WHO DO THESE PEOPLE RECKON THEY ARE?

Anyway, I know my LA update is WAY overdue (and truth be told I wrote a long one last week but for some reason it didn’t save so I lost the whole thing and I was so mad that I just said, “Ah, f*ck it,” and closed the computer instead of rewriting) but to give you a quick update, I AM SO PLEASED HERE. I MEAN, I’M REALLY, REALLY PLEASED. And I reckon living here and watching HGTV—both of these things combined—has made me realize that New York was just beating me down. I mean, the fireplace lady—yes, she’s an idiot. But there’s nothing incorrect with wanting a dining room table. Why did I get so mad at that lady?

Since being here, at least once a day I question myself why I have lived in New York for so long. (It’s like I had Stockholm Syndrome or something.) CALIFORNIA IS AWESOME. It’s like the promised land. It’s sunny all the time and there are birds and flowers everywhere. I have space out here. I have a sofa on the patio out here. I HAVE A SOFA OUTSIDE. I haven’t seen one rat since I’ve been here. But hummingbirds? THEY ZIP BY MY HEAD EVERY DAY. I am so pleased.

I’m supposed to go back to New York in November, but truth be told, I’m not sure I will.
